NEWS RELEASE 2005

Three-time NHRA champion Angelle Sampey to appear at the 36th Annual O'Reilly Auto Parts Rod & Custom Car Show.

Monticello, Iowa -- The 36th annual O'Reilly Auto Parts Rod & Custom Car Show presented by KCRG TV9 will be held Saturday & Sunday, February 26th & 27th, 2005, at the Monticello Berndes Center (formerly the Youth Center Building) in Monticello, Iowa. The show, which is one of the oldest and longest running shows of its kind in Iowa, will feature a popular mix of street rods, custom cars, motorcycles, street machines, race cars and trucks, so there's bound to be something for every automotive or racing fan.

This year the show will also include a special appearance by Angelle Sampey, the three-time NHRA POWERade Pro Stock Bike Champion. Ms. Sampey who is sponsored by the U.S. Army and is part of the Don Schumacher racing team, is one of the most popular racers in the country, and she will be making one of her very rare personal appearances at the show. Over the years, Ms. Sampey has won thirty-five races and has appeared in fifty-five final rounds while capturing the championship in three consecutive years from 2000 through 2002. Her total number of victories is the most by any female racer in NHRA's fifty-three year history. Angelle Sampey will appear at the show both days and will be available for pictures and autographs. Shirley Muldowney was the headliner last year so this makes the second consecutive year that the show has featured one of the top woman drag racers in the country.

In addition to Ms. Sampey, the show will also include a special model car contest, an attraction that has been an important part of the show for the past nineteen years. "We feel that the model car competition opens the show up to more than just the hot rodders and racing fans" said Galen Muller, a spokesman for the show. "We've found that a lot of the visitors to the show enjoy the model cars almost as much as the real ones." There are trophies and cash awards for the winning cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc. in the show classes and they are through the courtesy of Budweiser and Hardee's. Mr. Muller said that, "Because of the quality of vehicles that we have at the show the selection of the winners is always very difficult. But our judges do a great job and the fans always seem pleased by the selections." Speaking of fans, there is also a special "Peoples Choice" award for both cars/trucks and the motorcycles that the fans can vote for. The show also will include appearances by Sparkles and Sprinkles the clowns who will perform magic, make balloon animals and do face painting for the children.

The O'Reilly Auto Parts Rod & Custom Car Show, which is open to the public, will run from noon to midnight on Saturday, the 26th and from 8 A.M. until 8 P.M. on Sunday, the 27th. Admission is just $8 for adults and $2 for children twelve and under. Children twelve and under who are accompanied by a paying adult will be admitted free of charge. Plus, if you bring a canned food item for the Four Oaks community program you will receive a dollar off the admission price, and there is plenty of free parking at the Monticello Berndes Center.
